Flowchart of the Criminal Trial Process

  According to Phillip Hayes  Typically, a criminal trial begins with a case-in-chief, during which each side delivers their critical evidence. The prosecutor presents the government's case and attempts to convince the jury that the defendant is the proper person to convict. The prosecutor may invite witnesses and specialists to testify, introduce papers, photographs, medical reports, and other physical evidence, and present the case against the accused during this stage. After the prosecutor has presented all of this evidence, the jury will be summoned to hear the testimony of the witnesses. The prosecution will present their case and call witnesses to testify once the case has been established. During the trial, witnesses will testify about their knowledge of the case.
